ABOUT PAM PETTY

 

Brief Biographical Information

 

Ø      Third generation Arizonan with strong ties to north Phoenix

Ø      Sunnyslope High School graduate

Ø      District 3 resident for total of over 25 yrs (16 most recently)

Ø      Long-time family connections to the Maricopa District

§         Pam’s mother graduated from Phoenix College in 1935

§         Pam’s uncle, Robert Jaap, served on the original 1962 Maricopa Community College District Governing Board and was the Governing Board’s first president.

Ø      Pam and her family have a strong educational background and she is very familiar with education issues facing all of us today.

§         Her mother was an elementary school teacher in North Phoenix.

§         Both of her adult children teach in Arizona high schools

§         Pam has over 30 years teaching and educational leadership experience

Candidate for District #3 Maricopa County Community Colleges Governing Board

 

Affordable, quality education available to everyone

 

I am running for the governing board because:

  • I believe in public service.
  • Serving on the Governing Board will give me the opportunity to give back to my community and to the college district.
  • I have over 30 years of teaching and educational leadership experience at both the college and high school levels.
  • I am knowledgeable about the issues facing our community colleges.
  • I will serve the citizens of Maricopa County and work to provide the community college district with effective, ethical, and quality governance.

 

 

MY KEY POSITIONS

 

Ø      I will be a strong advocate for the students of Maricopa County.

·        I believe that Governing Board policy decisions should focus first on making quality education accessible to everyone in our communities.

·        I will work to provide the highest quality education at the lowest cost for our students.

·        I advocate an increased focus on teaching and learning to prepare students for an enriched and successful life.

·        I will work to make our community college campuses secure, safe havens for students and employees.

·        I will support decisions that put student learning first.

 

Ø      I will work to maintain fiscal responsibility.

·        I will work to eliminate any wasteful spending and to set spending priorities to support student learning.

·        I support personal and institutional responsibility.

·        I promise effective and accountable stewardship of taxpayer money.

 

Ø      I will work to make the Community College District function efficiently and effectively.

·        I will support policies requiring that employees carry out their public trust professionally and responsibly, and that the colleges maintain the highest ethical standards.

·        I will support more interaction between the Governing Board and the college employee groups.
